Channels can be added to any existing group.

From the Mobile App, while viewing a Group, tap on the orange drop down menu under the group name and click the "+ Add a new channel" button. Choose your channel name, description and type then click "Create" to save your new channel.

Once your new Channel is created, add members and posts to get started.
